The Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (Public Organization), aka GIT has announced its readiness to organize the International Chanthaburi Gems and Jewelry Festival 2019 in December to promote Chanthaburi as the world’s City of Gems, hosting a comprehensive center for gems and jewelry production, trading and investment.
“The GIT and our partners from both public and private sectors are working together to push forward Chanthaburi to become the global City of Gems, colored gemstone production and trading hubs of the world. As much as 80% of colored gemstones worldwide have been circulated through Thailand for cutting and enhancing their quality,” said Mrs. Duangkamol Jiambutr, Director of GIT.
“The local knowledge of enhancing the quality of colored gemstones has helped to double the value of the gemstones. Thailand is widely recognized as the world’s largest producer of cut colored gemstones and the world’s third largest exporter of the product, after the U.S. and Hong Kong, respectively,” said Mrs. Duangkamol.
Therefore, GIT and its allies have announced the International Chanthaburi Gems and Jewelry Festival 2019 from December 4 to 8, 2019 to promote Chanthaburi as the world’s City of Gems, aimed at reinforcing the leading position of the city to be more extensively recognized in the international arena. This festival will stand out from other gems and jewelry trade fairs as the GIT and other organizations such as the Chanthaburi Provincial Office and the Tourism Authority of Thailand will jointly conduct activities relevant to the gems and jewelry industry in the province. Activities to be carried out include gems auction, a jewelry design award, gem faceting contest and a gems and jewelry research award.
“Visitors can discover and directly buy quality gemstones and jewelry products from jewelers while GIT’s Mobile Lab will provide gem testing and certification services to buyers. Moreover, participants to the fair will have an opportunity to explore and experience local cultures and lifestyle by visiting beautiful tourist attractions related to jewelry crafting in Chanthaburi such as Baan Wan Kon or House of Puzzle Ring,” the GIT director added.
