The Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (GIT) has been organizing this annual design contest with the mission of discovering fresh talent in the gems and jewelry industry. This contest is open to designers of all levels, from students, young designers to professional designers where they will get an opportunity to show their creativity and imagination to design jewelry that will be shown to the public. GIT hopes the contest will encourage designers to keep producing innovative and creative jewelry designs.
“With this year's theme, ‘The Pearl of Wisdom – Illumination from under the Surface’ we're looking to promote pearls to become more widely recognized," says Duangkamol Jiambutr, Director of the Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (GIT), "Moreover, the design must be able to be manufactured and sold, which will create further opportunities for a career in jewelry production.”
Contestants must utilize pearl or mother of pearl as the centerpiece of the jewelry design.
GIT will announce the winners of the contest on September 10, 2018 and the design of the finalists will be made into jewelry to be exhibited at the 62nd Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair that will be held from September 7 to 11, 2018 at Challenger Hall, IMPACT, Muang Thong Thani.
In this competition, winners will receive a total of $9,000 USD in prize money with a trophy from Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol. Awards will be divided into two categories: the award from the honorary judges, and the Popular Design Award 2018 that is open for the public to vote from the 20 top designs through the official website.
